OperaTor - Opera + Tor. Surf anonymously

Warning: this software is not maintained anymore. Try Operator YAPO, a portable Opera package, or the official Tor bundle.

OperaTor is a portable software bundle which allows you to browse the web anonymously. It combines the power of the Opera Browser, Tor and Polipo.

With OperaTor no data will be stored at the computer you plugged your portable memory into.

Download OperaTor 3.5

OperaTor weights 10 MB and is Windows only. After the download is finished:

  • check its MD5 checksum: 7a288e64811219b0ccc081398632288f *
  • extract the archive to the location of your choice
  • launch the OperaTor.exe file to start all the necessary applications

Please do not link directly to the files. Link to this page instead.

The only protocols which OperaTor anonymizes are HTTP and HTTPS, thus if you want to stay anonymous you should avoid using other Opera features (e.g. Java, JavaScript, Bittorrent, integrated e-mail and IRC clients).

OperaTor comes with absolutely no warranty. It is the user's responsibility to test whether the connection is secure. Users should keep in mind that OperaTor relies on Tor (The Onion Router) and Polipo and any security questions should be directed to their developers.

Save sessions in OperaTor 3.0

Hi Arche Twist,

thanks for the new version of OperaTor.

In OperaTor 3.0 there is an old problem, the FAQ Tip doesn't help anymore:

Whenever I close and reopen OperaTor all my pages are lost.

Sessions (which include information about open pages) are not saved by default. Changing this behaviour is not recommended, though here is how you can do it: set DeleteSession to 0 in the operator.ini file, open Opera's „Preferences“ and on the „General“ tab, under „Startup“ choose „Continue from last time“.

Some new idea to sove the problem?

DeleteSession is now DeleteHistory (two configuration options merged into one). I've updated the FAQ. In the future, please report any problems in the appropriate forum.

Why you say Privoxy version

Why you say Privoxy version not to anonymize HTTPS connections and Polipo the other way round?

I want to donate, you make OperaTor OperaAwesome!

OperaTor 3.0 is not only the best Tor browser, it's also the best portable browser, even vs OperaUSB! Archetwist, you are so awesome, when I've got some cash I'd like to donate a few dollars to show my gratitude. Where is your donation page?

Since OperaTor is now the best portable browser there is, have you considered promoting and describing it that way? It could be a great way to introduce people to Tor.

Thanks! You can use the donation button I've just added.

It's just a simple (although useful ;-)) program. I'd rather avoid using comparative adjectives ;-) .

What if I already have tor

What if I already have tor installed and still want to use OperaTor sometimes. I get the error „Tor is already running“. Changing operator.ini entry RunTor to 0 doesn't help either. Is there a way to make OperaTor run over the existing tor?

Already discussed.

Already discussed. Solution:

  2. RunTor=0
  3. DisableWarnings=1

need to update page, keep old versions available

Need to properly update OT page, it says it uses privoxy when it actually uses polipo. ALso need to keep old versions available, in case there are undiscovered problems, and maybe run stuff as a beta for testing a while longer.
