OperaTor - Opera + Tor. Surf anonymously

Warning: this software is not maintained anymore. Try Operator YAPO, a portable Opera package, or the official Tor bundle.

OperaTor is a portable software bundle which allows you to browse the web anonymously. It combines the power of the Opera Browser, Tor and Polipo.

With OperaTor no data will be stored at the computer you plugged your portable memory into.

Download OperaTor 3.5

OperaTor weights 10 MB and is Windows only. After the download is finished:

  • check its MD5 checksum: 7a288e64811219b0ccc081398632288f *
  • extract the archive to the location of your choice
  • launch the OperaTor.exe file to start all the necessary applications

Please do not link directly to the files. Link to this page instead.

The only protocols which OperaTor anonymizes are HTTP and HTTPS, thus if you want to stay anonymous you should avoid using other Opera features (e.g. Java, JavaScript, Bittorrent, integrated e-mail and IRC clients).

OperaTor comes with absolutely no warranty. It is the user's responsibility to test whether the connection is secure. Users should keep in mind that OperaTor relies on Tor (The Onion Router) and Polipo and any security questions should be directed to their developers.

a newbie question : is it still the HTTP protocol Operator uses when I download a file from a website or when i upload a video on YouTube for instance? In other words, am I still anonymous if I do such things?

OperaTor isn't a unique

OperaTor isn't a unique program itself, rather it's a bundle of 3 other programs. Each of these programs has its own website and its own FAQ. RTFM !

A doubt regarding Opera Tor

I have a very basic doubt regarding OperaTor.

I am using a proxy server which is called

And, how do i instruct Tor to connect to the internet via that proxy server?

I am not asking about the Enable Proxy Server option.

My question is how does Tor connect to the internet from my computer without asking for any settings as internet explorer does? or, can i configure how Tor connects to internet..

If, for example, i want to access My proxy blocks orkut by a filter called websense. If i run OperaTor without enabling proxy server option in the bottom, i get the websense „BLOCKED“ page. If i run it after enabling it, the request says that there is no website in that name. I think it does not know how to connect to internet from my computer.

Can i configure it? Please help me…

I just tried it and I love

I just tried it and I love it!

I have only one question. It says that I have Opera 9.52 and when I check for updates it says that there is a new update. So, shouldn't you update the program in order users to have the latest version of Opera?

28.11.2008, 16:06

new version?

Hello, I think OperaTor is really good. When will you develop OperaTor including Opera 9.62? Regards

25.11.2008, 15:47

any updates coming up?

Hi there, There has been no update since 9.52 I think. Currently 9.62 available

any chance you'll be updating to 9.62 with tor

all the best

All you useers should be aware, that Opera still does leak DNS REQUESTS! With Tor usage you only protect your web traffic, but dns queries still go to the dns server windows knows, so your boss or your provider still knows everything you did the last months using this „anon operator“. It is a shame, that the author does not write a warning about this – it is especially important for people that live in countries where you could be arrested or even killed by the so called „government“ (means „the gangsters in power“).
